Dadof4Kiddies asked:

My house is 1600 square feet with vaulted ceilings on the second floor.

I need to paint the ENTIRE interior before my wife and I start trying for a baby.

So I am hoping to have it done in 4 months.

I am going to paint on the weekends.

How long did it take you to paint the interior of your house?

Depends on how much furniture you have to move. Painting is the easy part.

You should watch how the UK comic Mr Bean does it………
    It may work……….
He wraps everything that he doesnt want to paint up in newspaper…….
Then he gets the paint and blows it up……..
    Painting the whole room……….LOL!
It doesnt quite work but may be worth a try…..
See if you can get it on DVD , its funny to watch anyway!

Get a good primer and you always need two coats I don’t care how much you spend on the paint. Four months shouldn’t be a problem… you can do a room a weekend easy, and can prob. do more !!! It depends on what a workday is to you. Get all your supplies ready so you can get up and start working straight away. Get a tall ladder to cut in with a brush at the ceiling or tape off really well and use a roller. Get an telescoping extension for your roller handle and you can do vaulted ceilings easy. Use at least an eggshell finish and if you carry the same color throughout it’ll be easier for you as a beginner. I’m 5′5 and I painted our guest cottage that has 24′ ceilings by myself. You might price out getting a pro to do the vaulted rooms and do the others yourself. Good Luck

Well, two coats are always nice. So it’ll take twice as long. Try painting your master bedroom and see how long it takes you. You should be able to somewhat judge how long it’ll take you for the rooms, and about twice as long for the living room, half the time for the bathrooms, etc. I would suggest getting some friends to help you paint. It’s fun and will go a lot faster. Good luck with concieving, too!

For armature- figure like this- One day to prep and move furniture- one day to paint the walls and ceiling, one day to cut in the Trim and doors.
    1. Move all furniture into middle of Room, cover with a Tarp- Mask off all trim, and using masking paper , about 1 foot wide on the carpet to trim, then lay a tarp on the Carpet over onto the Paper, after the walls are painted ,remove the masking from the Trim, using an edger cut in the Trim, using small amounts of paint with a good brush. don’t load the brush, or paint will bleed behind the edger.
For the Doors, use a short nap roller, called a Mohair- Get Roller handles that are long, place you paint in a 5 gal bucket with a Screen to roll off excess paint, place it in Front of you between the Wall and yourself, dip in, clean excess and roll, repeat, Buy good quality paint and you can do it in one coat, – Sears used to have the Best Paint, then Sherwin Williams-

Best to use Canvas drop cloths, not plastic, they will slip around. After one or two rooms you should be able to improve to 2 days at most- get one Roller handle that extends out to do the High Ceilings, the others can be less expensive, but use long handles, so you don’t have to stoop and climb ladders. Use 5 gal buckets with the screen, nothing to clean up, and just put the lid on it overnight or even all week- To speed things up, do the Prep at night, so your ready to paint early in the A M-
For your Brushes, use a Large Coffee Can, cut a slit in the Plastic top, and let the brush handle hang into the paint to keep it soft , no need to clean it daily- you can keep the rollers in the Paint also, but keep it air tight as possible.
    Good luck with the job.

If you keep at it it should take several weekends or more, go thru and paint all ceilings first, then go thru and do all the trim work, corners along baseboards, around windows and door frames, along walls and ceilings. This way you will only have to open the paint cans a couple of times. Once all the trim work is done in all of the rooms things will go allot faster when you start rolling the paint on the walls, at this point depending on the room size you should be able to knock out a couple of the rooms per weekend…..I would recommend a semi gloss paint as it is easy to keep clean with youngsters around. I also use the semi gloss on ceilings as well. Good luck hope everything goes ok.
