Do the interior design schools have internships or projects for students?

I am not creative and don’t have any design ideas. I can’t afford to pay $75 hour for an interior decorator. Do you know if any interior design schools have internships where the students perform interior decorator projects for a fraction of the cost. My favorite on HGTV is Candace Olson. She can work miracles.

When I went through interior design we had co-op (placement) programs with firms… I also freelanced during school to make money and use my creativity… We had assignments where we would have to redecorate rooms for people we knew…

Take a look at your local design schools and see if they offer them… You will be able to get work for free or really cheap so someone can build their portfolio… If the school doesn’t offer it then ask if you can post a “want ad” in their lobby – That way freelance designers attending school can help you…

(Another interesting thing is most fashion design schools will do the same with clothing… A friend of mine designs clothes and had the same experience during her schooling)

    I love Candace Olson too!

Check out. If you live close to one of the trainers or in one of the cities they might be training in, you could email or call them to see if your house would qualify for a practice house for a redesign class. Redesigners work with what you already own (though will give you ideas for shopping or shop for you if you would like). They empty out your room and “rebuild” it — placing the furniture, artwork and accessories so that you end up with a beautiful and functional room!

Trainers typically offer a discounted rate for bringing in a class — though your house has to fit their needs (so that students get the right variety of experiences during the week class). You could have a new look for your room in one afternoon!
