I am writing an essay and I need to know how the graphic novel influenced the movie visually and conceptually. If you could help me out it would be much appreciated! :)

In all honesty, the stories are nothing alike. The Dark Knight Returns is about an older Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement as Batman in a world that is deeply sinking into crime and ****.

Visually, they are pretty separate as well. Although they both retain a dark and gritty feel, the comic is definitely “dirtier” feeling. The movie is a lot more clean and polished.

However, they are similar in their dark tone. They take place in a world that is not perfect with heroes that are not perfect and endings that are not particularly happy ones. I’d say that the film would not exist if not for the comic.
