graphicdesignteacher asked:

This is a video clip for my middle school graphic design class. It’s purpose is to help the kids become familiar and comfortable with using the tools of GimpShop (an open source program similar to Photoshop)

BTW….STFU and let the woman teach. This is a middle school class. Who cares what software they are using?! honestly. save the expensive adobe crap for college. you’re gonna have to learn the basics all over again in college anyways so what’s the difference in going it without ever using it?

  3. FoximusPrime May 25, 2009 5:32 am

Right. I’m pretty sure this video wasn’t posted to see what a bunch of ****** bags on youtube think about it. She’s using it to teach a class. So, shut up.

Wtf is with all the long comments?!

Just watch the vid and let the woman do her job. >.>

When you are dealing with younger students, although it would be ideal for everyone to use state of the art software, you are basically introducing them to the concepts of design that they can then apply to other classes and software. Graphics software is similar in many ways across the board, and those students interested in pursuing design further can go on to more advanced levels. Being vehemently adamant about this when there are more pressing problems in the world is silly.

The needs of a high school class and middle school class would often be very different. That being said, if your school managed to get Macs and those packages for a 2 hour class I would assume the macs are for more than JUST that class, or you have WAY too much money. Now would your school be able to afford a bunch of PC’s on top of the Macs if that was required?

I dont know much about gimp and have used my free version of photoshop which is widely available at your friends houses. I realy like the way she says GIMP thats hot. I wish she were my school teacher…

K the girl is cute… but clueless what professionals use. Get a mac and buy some adobe software.

BTW for “Distatica” my highschool had a 2 hour graphic arts program. They had macs and photoshop, quark and illustrator…freehand and flash as well. They weren’t the latest versions, but they did the job.

Come up with a tutorial myself? Why, this is a perfectly acceptable tutorial, which is my point exactly. I am well aware of GimpShop, not that it actually ADDs functionality to Gimp, it just organizes stuff differently. I also didn’t say a damn thing that had anything to do with gimpshop, so I’m not sure what facts I need to get right. Maybe you could tell me? The rest of your comment agrees with my point, and I have no idea who or what a stupido is.

before dissing someone, come up with a tutorial yourself first and get your facts right, there is a modification of The GIMP around, called GIMPshop!
and to rest of dump replies, you can put older pc’s in school, stuff them with linux and superb open-scource tool and teach the kids some great stuff!
and about using only photoshop (argh) as a pro, obviously you never tried The GIMP nor Blender or watched elephant’s dream, otherwise you wouldn’t be talking like that!
    stupido!

That’s brilliant, I can picture it now. “I’d like to start a graphic design course for 30 kids, instead of using our pre-existing lab, and free software to teach them how to draw a box, I’d like a budget of at least $30,000 for new hardware, and professional design software. After all, isn’t it well known that we have massive amounts of money pouring into our school system?” Sorry kids, no math, but you can draw a box!

For those of you that sniffed a vat of glue before commenting: It’s HIGHLY doubtful that a middle school class is “serious about going into Graphic Design”. It’s unlikely they will enroll in a graphic design course. And it’s unlikely that the school will approve a budget for licensed copies of Adobe Photoshop. You may think you’re pro’s, but something tells me it’s the stuff you’re huffing that makes your pictures look so pretty — at least to you.

not really lol you can just try and get for free

  14. newmacgirl June 18, 2009 6:41 am

hint. buy an mac. buy adobe software. enroll in a certified graphic design course. give the ‘gimp’ the big boot! good luck

  15. bratz2 June 21, 2009 1:01 am

Might be expensive but if anyone is really serious about going into Graphic Design that’s what they better be learning not some free crap. Gimp is fine if you are just messing around at home but if you want to go into the profession you better learn to use the tools that the profession uses.

  16. FahedWrestling June 21, 2009 12:39 pm

    photoshop is expensive as hell

  17. fallenleaves2011 June 24, 2009 2:04 am

  18. epete22 June 26, 2009 12:03 am

gimp shop? what the hell, how about cheap *** piece of crap shop. Is this dumpy broad for real? Wait a box? thats what you taught? how to create a box?
